IMPO & THE TENTS - Anxious Times

by IMPO & THE TENTS (ALIEN SNATCH! RECORDS)

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

    lim.100 edition on colored vinyl

four exclusive new dancepunk power pop smashers for candyland surfers! The songs are as catchy as the latest album on ALIEN SNATCH! which got claimed as the 79´ punk/pop album of 2014. The guitar and organ is a sugar rush and the vocals just drag you out any unwanted unlucky situation and make the summer´s end the best you had! IMPO & TENTS got the knack taking the speed of early punk rock (UNDERTONES, POINTED STICKS) into 60´s bubblegum (1910 FRUITGUM to RASPBERRIES) near to unreal perfection and doing it again and again. We´re addicted! A-Side Label is stickered on the B-Side and vice versa. since both sides are damn good, it doesn´t matter, yeah!

We´re addicted! First press 500 copies, 100 copies in clear yellow vinyl (mailorder only) and 400 copies in black vinyl. hey, the initial press got misprint labels, so A-Side Label is stickered on the B-Side and vice versa. since both sides are damn good, it doesn´t matter, yeah!

AUDIO AMMUNITION (USA) JUN 2016 What if The Dickies singer fronted an Undertones/’79 Power-pop band heavily influenced by bubblegum bands like 1910 Fruitgum Company? Impo & The Tents would be the answer. Listen to “Do The Things You Wanna Do” and you’ll see what I mean. Anxious Times is a fun release much like their previous LP, Peek After A Poke is. Anxious Times leans more power-pop than its predecessor LP did. The new addition for Impo is the farfisa sounding organ which gives the band a more ‘60/s mod dimension. (ES)

Razorcake.com #91 (USA) Jan 2016 Another round from these cats who continue to marvel us by sounding like the Dickies playing power pop while keeping things from sounding rehash. Tunes are fresh, catchy, and they continue to set the bar quite high for themselves and others looking to play to this niche. (Jimmy Alvarado)

vibratorbuzzblog.wordpress.com Jan 2016 Tricia Toyota´s Rapid Reaction French Kiss Force of the Special Wankings & Tactics Unit Södertälje is back with another candystained slab of kindergarten organ driven yummy teen blast enhancing the magnum opus Powerbubble-Pop of their “Peek After A Poke” full-length above perfection. Highly infectious like the Katz / Kasenetz virus which hold the world in it´s clutches in the Sixties they pop the best weasel out of Bubblegum´s 1910 FRUITGUM COMPANY and OHIO EXPRESS catchy rhythm simplicity while at the same time bang shang-a-langing through the Archie Show with DICKIES “Nights In White Satin” speed and an on the point MODERNETTES “Barbra” drum beat. As if this wouldn´t inherently be enough genius yet they even draw the bow further by taking the Justin Strauss Metro to “Tinkertoy Tomorrow” with a sidestep visit at the SPEEDIES door to take a souvenir photo before seizing the airplane to UK to sip on a final Margarita and drop out with the BARRACUDAS wishing it would be 1965 again. Still these references are only scratching the surface, nerd affectionally seen IMPO & THE TENTS will really make you wonder if you´re just browsing through a present age version of Sing Sing Records´ back catalogue of bands. Besides the almost unbelievable and manic music side the best thing about IMPO & THE TENTS of course is that they´ll beam you right back into childish no consequences Michel from Lönneberga behaviour where you not only wanna get drunk yourself but also want the pigs to have their share too, good clean blutwurst breath fun. Actually in a world not gone totally mad IMPO & THE TENTS would be the autocratic kings of the Micky Mouse Club driving both teenage girls and boys crazy whereas Justin Bieber would just be a Prozac addicted homeless with a bad haircut. As the odds for this to happen are long it´s on us as elitist music perfectionists to start our own teenage respective retiree club and spin their records while sloshing with beer cans until our limbic system goes bang. (10/10)

fasterandlouderblog.blogspot.com (USA) Jan 2016 If you read my review of Impo & The Tents' latest LP, you know I'm crazy for these Swedish ambassadors of powerpop/punk. Again working with Alien Snatch Records, the band has released a follow-up EP called Anxious Times that picks up right where that last album left off. And you know what that means: fast, catchy, and unstoppably exuberant pop songs that will put a huge smile on your face and have you dancing around the house like a child on a sugar binge. Why mess with a winning formula? As always, these gentlemen hit that Dickies/Undertones/Pointed Sticks sweet spot right on target. And I love the added '80s new wave vibe that comes from Lars' peppy organ work. The first two tracks here are pure dizzying fun (how about those harmonies on "Do The Things You Wanna Do"?!). Then on the back end, the band takes the foot off the pedal a little and really shows off its songwriting chops. "Summer's End" is exactly what the title suggests - a throwback to '60s surf & pop with just a touch of melancholy to it. Barracudas fans, take note! And to close out the record, "Stay The Night" is pretty much perfect power pop. What a damn fine EP! If you love powerpop/punk the way I do, you need to get your mitts on Anxious Times (along with all of Impo & The Tents' stuff)! (Josh Rutlegde)
