about

RAZORCAKE #101 (USA) Jan 2018 SUSHICORNER’s Konichiwow is mesmerizing. Once the needle dropped and the first measure of “Shadows” burst from my speakers, I became an instant devotee: twangy, fuzzed-out guitars that endlessly spiral; hypnotic, layered vocals; and propulsive, almost cultish rhythms. This isn’t a record for wimps—it left my brain feeling prickly. Sometimes reminiscent of the acid-touched angularity of Thee Oh Sees, Sushicorner drowns me in a flood of sound. All of this is achieved by an Italian duo: Pilleri and Orrú. Konichiwow is twelve songs of strung-out noise surf. Imagine if the soundtrack to Beach Party was written by art rock-loving deviants. I’ll ride that wave (Sean Arenas)

MRR #414 (USA) Jan 2018 The first thing that one notices about SUSHICORNER record is how loud it is. Not only is it loud, but it´s trebly and piercing. This works out to the benefit of the record, with itßs lo-fi recording, clean guitar and carnival synths. Konichiwow is an abrasive listen, and a fun one. If you find yourself wanting the junk sound and sheer idiocy of AUSMUTEANTS, this is alsmost got you. SUSHICORNER is less dumb than just goofy and weird. Whether you want some assaulting synth punk, weirdo pop touched garage or just a bizarre listen, this LP might be for you (LP)

AUDIO AMMUNITION (US) SEP 2017 This is the debut album from this duo from the Italian island of Sardinia. They play some high strung, mid-tempo songs packed full of organ and sass. The record is self-recorded by the two guys and has a healthy dose of reverb coating all of the songs. Some of the tunes are pretty catchy and remind me of a scrappier, slowed down Radioactivity mixed with Pavement’s wisenheimer attitude. In fact, the whole album has a heavy 90’s era “college band” feel to it. It also reminds me a lot of this 2009 record called Hippies from this Austin, TX band called Harlem

Le due voci, puntellate dal Farfisa Matador, procedono all’unisono creando un unicum melanconico (Another Day, Not Dying to See Her, A Sad Story) a tratti ansiogeno (The House with a Gate) comunque sempre elegiaco, anche quando i ritmi salgono e fanno materializzare il fantasma di Jay Reatard (Shadows, One at the Time).
