When Marie Curie moves through the walls, you‘ll get this Eerie Family/Hex Dispensers mix, where a ray of sunshine fills the dark. Love it !

The HEX DISPENSERS got shipwrecked off the coast of the Pacific Northwest, the circumstances of which remain a mystery to this day. Stranded on a former Devil's Island sanctuary, Dave Bessenhoffer (guitar, vocals) formed the GRAVEYARD OF THE PACIFIC along with the water-logged skeletons of Alex Cuervo (synths, backing vocals) and Alyse Mervosh (drums, backing vocals), both joining Dave in Texas doom-pop purveyors HEX DISPENERS and are themselves an EERIE FAMILY. This record trods down similar haunted sonic pathways and inhales your last signs of life with ghostly grave-wave rock. Entitled SORCERER, the songs drag you for a death surf ride into the frigid waters of the Pacific.
Lighthouse recordings by the ghost of Mark Ryan (MARKED MEN, MIND SPIDERS). Sorcerer Sanatorium details: 100 rooms with orange walls. 400 black rooms, ravens circle above at 33 rpm.

razorcake.org (US) #135 April 2024 Haunting doesn’t always come in the form of ghosts. It can be a feeling that simply doesn’t leave you. GRAVEYEARD OF THE PACIFIC haunts me in that way. Sure, there’s the undeniable spectre of The HEX DISPENSERS floating through this album like a low mist between the tombstones of cemetery in autumn. The involvement of Alex Cuervo and Alyse Mervosh makes it impossible to dismiss the connection, but this is no reanimated corpse. Along with Dave Bessenhoffer they have created something unique and special. This is the haunting I’m talking about. The music sways through a kind of ethereal garage rock. Gothic garage? I’m not sure about labels, but I can say that the album mesmerizes me from start to finish. While I have been listening to this since it came out digitally last summer, I’d like to thank the good folks at ALIEN SNATCH! for putting a physical version of this out into the world. This is a worthy addition to any record collection (TN)
(KS)

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer

Killer garage-rock with a salting of punk. All songs are good, but the album keeps getting better as it warms up. Found it on the Drunken Sailor Record label, which is turning out to be a great resource for the dirtier side of all things great in punk and rock. Lute FP
Don't be fooled by the thick layer of snot over these songs - this Nova Scotian band has a melodic heart and a whip-smart head. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 3, 2018
